Explained in Yin Yang Five Element

Metal of Water Element - Yin of Yin/Yin Element - Plant Self
Period of personality imprint - During gestation to birth and up to seven years old.

Five Questions (Existential) - How Are You?
Five Questions (Metaphorical) - If you describe your upbringing as a plant, what kind of soil have you grown up in?

A. Fertile soil. But because of it, there were a lot of competition.
"Therefore I need to be grounded"

A Few Words about the Condition

A house must have a firm foundation to stand for the structure above, and to withstand severe weather.
It is difficult to achieve anything of value without first learning the basics.
Just the same, in order for a plant to grow vigorously, its roots must firmly and securely planted in the ground.

This formula is placed at the Yin of the Water element.
Water Element relates to the first and second Chakras. Much of issues that leads to hardships in Water element are set before one’s birth or during the early years.

There are two extreme situations.
If the family had to move around due to the economical reason, or parents’ relationship, children would obviously suffer from the loss of connection.
On the other hand, the family may have been financially well off, but there were too much competition for attention/love.

The fertile earth may not always be the best earth, for there are countless others looking for the opportunity to take up the space.

The condition during the formative years become the habit in later years. When an adversity hits, people often repeat the same action in later years. The difference is as an adult you are responsible for all your actions.

Five Questions (Existential) - How Are You?
Five Questions (Metaphorical) - If you describe your upbringing as a plant, what kind of soil have you grown up in?

A. Over fertilized. Too much expectation that was actually burdensome
"Therefore I need my own structure to grow tall."

A few word about the condition.

Water Element’s organ Kidney energy is responsible for building our skeleton and creating the marrow inside bones. Any hereditary disease are also said to be deficiency of the Yin of the Kidney. The Yang of Kidney is responsible to carry the earth energy up to nourish the body.

A person may have received healthy body but not necessary support during early formative years to build a sound structure. It is also possible that one receives too much love in a wrong manner (for example material support but not emotional) or too much expectation which robs a breathing space.

A person with the deficiency tend to show lack of patience or give up prematurely. It is also possible that one is unable to solicit necessary support in adult life.

The fear of being inadequate turns to envy for others and the life will become constant uphill battle. You can learn from plants that grow in mountains at high altitude. They grow slowly but surly even if the ground is steep.

How Do You Feel?

Five Question (Metaphorical) -
Q. Every climate has its own challenges. What is your hardship?
A. Icy cold. Had to fend myself against neglect.
Therefore I need to find my peace in solitude.

A few words on this formula

As the Metal Element relates to air, conditions are easily identifiable with climates. Love and passion create heat, and without, the opposite. Man learns from the experience and he is a creature of habit. If his childhood family relationship was cold, distant and devoid of love, then he is more than likely to find his comfort in solitude.
It may not be his preference however, then he tries his best to give love that he never received in the family of his own.

The energy of Metal Element works in our lungs. It is the organ of exchange. We receive oxygen that plants created and give back carbon to them. It is far more important exhale - to give. Once you let go of the air you held, then inhalation - receiving is spontaneous and automatic.

Q. Every climate has its own challenges. What is your hardship?
A. Tropical. Had to fend myself against sarcasm

A few word about the condition

The Metal element is strongly affected by the birth family’s emotional constitution. If the space is limited to give individuals enough room to breath, the family must negotiate, otherwise there will be some form of aggressive behaviour to be expected. It can also happen that parents in their work environment experience the similar situation, and return home stressed and vent it out on their children.

Aggression causes friction and it causes heat. Too much heat will burn and the scar will remain until the cause is understood, often many years later.

Lungs is the internal vital organ that connect to the outside world directly. When the organ cedes its proper function, meaning not exchanging toxic air for the fresh one, then it would look for another outlet. Toxins have to come out of skin, creating dermatitis. On the emotional body. not being allowed to speak out freely may be the cause stuttering and asthma attack.

Then the victim turns out to become the aggressor when they are out in a community. A bullying child is often the bullied child at home. As a grown up, an adult children may succeed in competitive world but still suffers from unhealthy relationship.

The Metal element’s central lesson is to let go and move on, but in this situation one must first learn to hold up the hand and say “no, I do not find it pleasurable” The aggressivity can be an asset when directed in the right direction.

Five Questions (Existential) - How Are You?
Five Questions (Metaphorical) - If you describe your upbringing as a plant, what kind of soil have you grown up in?

A. Hard, dry soil. It was difficult to spread root. Lonely because there was not enough of us around.
"Therefore I need gentleness and comfort"

A Few Words About the Condition

This person may have had difficult pre or after birth.
The hardship can come from both parents’ state of health in all aspect - physical, mental, emotional, economical, and their relationship with each other. It results in you being mal- or under nourished.
As you have not yet been on earth long enough to fend for yourself, you feel helpless which arises the emotion of fear. Fear is the primal emotion against death. We experience death many times in our lifetime. For example, your love relationship ending against your wish because your partner does not give you chance to even fight.

The only you can do for things beyond your control is acceptance, forgiveness and trust. The fact is that you have survived to this day and now are able to solicit assistance of plants’ wisdom.

Seeds that falls on hard, dry soil have less chance of surviving the critical sowing stage. Those who do have to compete for the limited available water, primal element of life. Those who manage to mature learns to keep a certain distance from each other.

A Few Words about the Condition

In our lives water is more than essential, it is our origin.
Water does not choose a container. In reverse, water becomes whatever the container it is in.
Too much water could wash away the top soil or logged soil can rot the roots.

There are two conditions relating to this formula. The first case is when a person has a hereditary condition which makes normal life a challenging one. The other is a person who had unbearable family upbringing.
This person does not know the comfort zone, and getting out of home is not a matter of choice but necessity.

Walking on a tight rope requires audacity, and concentration to not lose the balance. Survival depends on the trust in the innate intelligence that life possess.

A. Desert dry. Had to fend myself against cynicism

A few words about the condtion.

Forgiveness is for giving. It is difficult to one to know how to give love if you’ve never received. Often the emotion gets twisted when the attention you receive is an attack disguised as love, or when a complement you receive turns out to be a clever insult. You can either choose to play the game on their turf, or learn to go beyond the endless cycle of sadomasochism.

A lesson for the Metal element is to know that the life at this stage is the game of survival, and everyone is for himself. Right or wrong, there is nothing you can do for the action of others’ free will. Find a way to make peace with yourself and let go of hate. Wash it all way.

There are two poles to why people seek liberty is the most important to behold.
On one extreme where people’s lives are restricted or controlled due to socio-economic condition. There, attacks on individual liberty is norm rather than exception. On the other extreme where life is easier because the value of personal liberty has been discussed and placed in writing, and consequently the economic condition more fluid. People in the first scenario, to fight or flight may mean annihilation. The only possibility is somehow to create the space of liberty within and hold it dear. On the other scale with higher standard of economy which affords liberty, a child may find their situation condescending to those with lesser gift (Buddha syndrome). Another child may take all the advantage of wealth but feels himself unworthy. Both children will end up taking the get-out-of-jail card and seek spiritual high outside.

Life is just a story, and the narrative has to have the beginning, middle, and the end. The situation the Metal element face is the middle one. You’ve learned to overcome fear (Water element) and you are not yet began taking full control of your destiny.
